Sport

Home Sport
This information outlines the Sports and Activities on offer at Kardinia International College.  Brief information is also provided on venues and locations activities are held, uniform requirements and terms activities are available.
BADMINTON is a sport played with a racquet and a shuttlecock. The objective of the game is to volley the shuttlecock back and forth over the net between opponents.  The first team to reach 21 wins the set. Benefits of Badminton include increased hand-eye coordination and cardio.

Students attend an external venue for Badminton.  Students are required to wear the full collage sports uniform.  Badminton is a sport option for students in terms 2 and 3.

BASKETBALL is a game played between two teams of five players in which goals are scored by throwing a ball through a netted hoop fixed at each end of the court. Rebounding is a skill used with its object to successfully gain possession of the ball after a missed goal or free throw as it rebounds from the hoop or backboard. The team with the highest score wins the match. Increased cardio, hand-eye coordination, balance and building up muscle are some of the physical benefits of playing Basketball.

Students attend an external venue for Basketball. On Wednesdays, this sport is played as part of the GISSA competition.  Students are required to wear the full collage sports uniform and on GISSA match days the college will provide them with a Kardinia International College basketball top.  Basketball is a sport option for students in term 3.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL / DODGEBALL is a team sport played between two teams on a sand court divided by a net. The object of the game is to volley the ball between team players and then over the net hoping to catch their opponents out allowing the ball to drop onto the sand. This will earn the team in possession a point. The first team to reach a score of 25 wins the set.  Dodgeball is a game in which players on two teams try to throw balls at each other while avoiding being hit themselves. As team members are hit, they leave the field and can re-enter the game as their team members catch the ball in full from their opponents. The last team standing wins the game.

Students attend an external venue hosting both Beach Volleyball and Dodgeball. Each session is split so that all students get the opportunity to play both these sports.  Students are to wear the full college sports uniform.  Beach Volleyball/Dodgeball is a sport option for students in term 3.

CRANK & GRIND is an Indoor Cycling Studio with the aim of improving the student’s fitness performance. The spin bikes are positioned on a tiered platform in front of a screen where students will be able to follow data giving them the real life sensation and encouragement to complete the course. Benefits of indoor cycling include increased cardio and endurance.

Students attend an external venue for Crank & Grind.  Students are to wear the full college sports uniform.  Crank & Grind is a sport option for students in terms 1 and 2.

CRICKET is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on an oval grass filed. There is a rectangle pitch in the centre of this filed with a set of wickets (3 stumps & 2 bales) placed at each end. The object of the game is for the fielding team to get out the batting team, either by catching the ball that the batter has hit, or by the bowler hitting the wickets with the ball and dislodging the bales.

Students attend cricket on the KIC oval. On Wednesdays, this sport is played as part of the GISSA competition and may travel to external venues.  Students are to wear the full college sports uniform and on GISSA match days, they are required to wear white pants and a groin guard. Students may bring their own protective pads, gloves, helmet and bat if they prefer.  Cricket is a sport option for students in term 4.

CROSS TRAINING This activity involves a combination of cardio work, weights training and boxing. A qualified instructor will lead the session.

Students use the Katsumata Weights Room / Gym for this activity.  Students are to wear the full college sports uniform.  Cross training is a sport option for students in terms 1,2,3 & 4.

DANCE sessions are designed to get the students moving by introducing a variety of dance styles. The Instructor has choreographed a series of steps and movements that match the speed and rhythm of the music with the outcome of motivating and engaging the students.

Students attend an external dance studio for this session.  Students are to wear the full college sports uniform.   Dance is a sport option for students in terms 2 and 3.

GYM JUNKY A qualified Leisurelink staff member runs Gym Junky. Each week will focus on a different type of training and includes activities such as spin, boxing, tabata, pump class and cardio class.

Students attend an external venue for this activity.  Students are to wear the full college sports uniform.   Gym Junky is a sport option for students in terms 1 and 2.

GYMNASTICS A qualified instructor who has designed exercises with the goal to develop or display physical agility and coordination runs the gymnastic session. These exercises involve the use of equipment such as bars, beams, floor mats and the vaulting horse. Occasionally the trampoline can also be used to compliment these exercises.

Students attend an external venue for this activity.  Students are to wear the full college sports uniform for this activity.  Gymnastics is a sport option for students in term 3.

HOCKEY is a team game played between two teams of eleven players each, using hooked sticks with which the players try to drive a small hard ball towards a goal at opposite ends of a field. The team with the most goals scored wins the game. Qualified instructors coach students.

Students attend an external venue for this activity.  Students are to wear the full college sports uniform, shin guards and mouth guard. Students may provide their own hockey stick if they prefer. A goalkeeper kit is supplied by the school.  Hockey is a sport option for students in term 2.

INDOOR FOOTBALL Action Indoor sports will supply staff to co-ordinate and conduct an adaptation of the game of football. The focus will be on the importance of teamwork with running, passing and ball skills to provide a high-energy fast moving game. The students will partake in round robin games of Indoor Football.

Students attend an external venue for this activity.   Students are to wear the full college sports uniform.  Indoor football is a sport option for students in term 3.
