The Timor Project extends and enhances the partnership Kardinia has with the small East Timorese community of Viqueque. It has been tailored to prepare students in travelling to Viqueque and working with the community in various ways. It is an essential unit for students intending on travelling to East Timor in Year 11.

In this Unit, students will inquire into various aspects of the East Timorese journey, including:

  • From the perspective of Global Politics, the political ascension into nationhood and the rugged history of the East Timorese in reaching this point.
  • From a Health and Human Development perspective, exploring the health and development of the East Timorese people, the systems in place to support their lifestyles and, with the aid of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, measuring how various SDGs apply in this context.
  • Acquiring and applying the art of teaching and learning of language, both in theory and as a practical skill.

The Assessment of this unit is through group tasks, presentations, research projects and a series of mini-assignments.

Offered in Semester 2. This unit should only be selected by Year 10 students.
